BC SUMMER GAMES - ABBOTSFORD - JULY 21 - 24TH, 2017
The 30th BC Summer Games are coming to Abbotsford on July 21 to 24th! Special Olympics BC athletics and swimming athletes will showcase their skills as they compete in Special Olympics divisions alongside more than 3,200 young athletes, coaches, and officials from around the province.
39 SOBC athletes have been selected and are ready to race in the 2016 BC Summer Games!
3 Sunshine Coast athletes and 1 swim coach will be attending. Michael Beckman and Genny Verge will be competing in the swim competition and Amber Maher will participate in the athletics competitions, including the100m, 200m, Shot Put, and Long Jump.
Michael Beckman will take part in 50 Free, 100 Free, 50 Back, and 100 Back stroke events and Genny will race in the 50 Free, 100 Free, 200 Free, 50 Back, 100 Back, and 100m IM.
Cathy Verge will accompany the team to Abbotsford and she will coach the BC Special Olympics swim team. Good luck and congratulations on being selected to represent your community.
The BC Summer Games provides a competitive multi-sport environment that supports the development of athletes, coaches, and officials as they move on to higher levels of competition. These BC Games are distinct from Special Olympics BC Games, which are our Provincial Games hosted by SOBC solely for SOBC athletes. SOBC athletes have been participating in the generic BC Games for 12 years.
“The BC Games are always an exciting opportunity for athletes and coaches to compete and learn. Our athletes get a lot out of competing and being part of the BC Games environment, and they put on a great demonstration of their skills as they participate alongside the mainstream athletes,” says Shawn Fevens, SOBC Manager, Sport.
