Meanwhile, Special O has carried on.
Our May 16th visit to the Sechelt Farmers and Artisans Market was successful. Despite the gusty wind the environment was pleasant, lots of visitors, and even a couple of new names signed up on our volunteer sheet. Also, the food was amazing! Hopefully we will host again!
Sunday June 7th, at Mission Point Park Special Olympics was at the Pride Festival a second time. The environment was joyful and, inclusive and although early rain threatened, ultimately the sun shone bright and hot. The traffic was consistent and folks took the time to chat, grab a pamphlet, some swag or candy. We could not have been happier to be with so many wonderfully uplifting folks as we spread the word about our organization that celebrates inclusion at its core. And gratitude to Patty Shields, our registration coordinator who was also excellent at helping us set up, supporting our efforts with positive energy and engaging the public with charm and wit.
Special O would like to extend a heartful thanks to the organizers of Pride Festival for accepting us into the fold once again.
Thank you also to our neighbouring booth SCACL for all their support and for the opportunity to make personalized tee shirts. Their energy was kinetic and helped reinforce the reality that people with DIVERSEabilities are unstoppable.
Still to come, our AGM will be on June 16th at SCACL from 5 to 6pm, where we will acknowledge our volunteers’ service, discuss Special O’s involvement on the Coast, and share opportunities to get involved with the coordinating committee.
Following the AGM, the Ball Busters Women’s Slo-Pitch Team will be going head-to-head with the Ravens from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at Hackett Park. There is lots of room in the bleachers for fans to come out and cheer for both teams.
One final event for June will be the Soccer wrap-up at Gibsons Elementary field at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 22nd. Come out and cheer, or join the players on the field (wear a non-red shirt). It should be fun for for all… some refreshments will be enjoyed around 7:15.
After that it will soon be July1st and Canada Day! Keep an eye out for us at Hackett Park celebrating Special O and the birthday of our wonderful country.
